Ankita Raina wins maiden ITF singles title

Continuing her steady progress in the WTA circuit, India's Ankita Raina overwhelmed British teenager Katy Dunne in straight sets in a one-sided final to lift her maiden USD 25,000 ITF singles title at the Deccan Gymkhana today.

The 21-year-old Ahmedabad-born player, who trains in this city, hardly broke a sweat while romping to a 6-2 6-2 victory over her 19-year-old British rival in the NECC-ITF women's tournament.

This was the India no.1 woman singles player's maiden USD 25,000 title and the 294-ranked Ankita expressed her delight over becoming the first from the host nation to clinch a title in the tournament after 14 years.

City girl Zeel Desai is India’s No 1

With a series of outstanding performances, including two grand double titles in the last five months, Zeel Desai was crowned as the new number one in India’s Under 16 girls tennis category on Tuesday. 

Under the Sports Authority of Gujarat’s Shaktidoot scheme, Desai obtained a scholarship to train at the Peter Smith Academy in Adelaide.

ખેલ મહાકુંભનો સમાપન સમારંભ અમદાવાદના જે. ડી. નગરવાલા પોલીસ સ્ટેડિયમ ખાતે રાખવામા આવેલ હતો જેમા ગુજરાતના માનનીય મુખ્ય મંત્રી શ્રી આનંદીબેન પટેલ, સાંસદ પરેશ રાવલ તથા અન્ય મહાનુભાવો એ હાજરી આપી હતી

ખેલ મહાકુંભના સમાપન સમારંભમા માના પટેલ, અંશુલ કોઠારી, પૂજા ચોેદશી, કિરણ ડાભી તથા નીલ કોન્ટ્રાકટર જેવા રાષ્ટ્રીય તથા આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય સ્તર પર રમી આવેલ ખેલાડીઓ એ હાજરી આપી હતી.

ખેલ મહાકુંભના સમાપન સમારંભના દિવસે ૬૦ વર્ષની ઉપરના બહેનોની રસ્સા ખેંચની ફાઇનલ સ્પર્ધા ગોઠવવામા આવી હતી. આ સ્પર્ધા નિહાળવા તયા ઉત્સાહ વધારવા માટે મુખ્ય મંત્રી શ્રી તથા અન્ય મહાનુભાવો સ્ટેજ પરથી નીચે આવ્યા હતા.

ખેલ મહાકુંભના સમાપન સમારંભના દિવસે આપણા મુખ્ય મંત્રી શ્રી આનંદીબેન પટેલનો જન્મ દિવસ હતો જેમા અનેક ગુ્પ્સએ થીમ સોંગ પર ભજવણી કરી હતી.

ખેલ મહાકુંભના સમાપન સમારંભ નિમિતે ગુજરાત ભરમાથી સ્કુલ ના વિધાર્થીઓએ પરેડમા ભાગ લીધો હતો.જે પ્રાથમિક કક્ષાના વિધાર્થીઓ એ ખૂબ સારી રીતે પ્રદર્શિત કર્યુ હતુ. આ પરેડસએ પ્રજાસતાક દિન પર થતી પરેડની યાદ અપાવી હતી.

Four times gold medal winner

Ahmedabad's swimming prodigy Maana Patel smashed national records of 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events at the age of 13. 

The 14-year-old won medals for India at the First Dubai International Swimming Championship this year. Maana believes that KMK is a wonderful idea generated by the government of Gujarat to ensure more and more kids indulge in sports. And the cash rewards tagged along is nothing but icing on the cake. This will motivate many to take up sports seriously and not just for fun.

Parul makes history at Para Asian Games

The 47 years old, Arjuna award winner, Parul Parmar did the nation proud by winning a gold and a silver medal in the women's badminton event at the 2014 Para Asian Games that recently concluded in Incheon, South Korea.Top-seeded shuttler Parul won against Kamtam Wannaphatdeein of Thailand in the summit clash of the women's singles. Partnering with Raj Kumar she won the silver in the mixed doubles category after they went down 21-14, 21-15 to the Indonesian pair of Setiawan Fredy and Leani Ratri in 21 minutes.

Parul is polio stricken since the age of three and has the distinction of being the only para-athlete from the state to have won multiple Para Asian Games medals. She clinched a bronze medal in the same category at the 2010 Guangzhou Para Asian Games.

ખેલ મહા કુંભની મશાલ સંદેશો આપતી હતી, આવી રહેલ છે રમતોનો મહા ઉત્સવ, ખેલ મહા કુંભ, કુંભ શબ્દ અમૃત સાથે પણ જોડાયેલ છે, દેવો અને દાનવોએ ભેગા મળી સમૃદ્ર મંથન કર્યું તો મળ્યો અમૃત કુંભ, લાંબા જીવન માટે અમૃત, અમર થવા માટે અમૃત, અને આ અમૃત આપનાર હતો  કુંભ, અને એટલે જ શરીરને સ્વસ્થ રાખવાનો, તંદુરસ્ત રાખવાનો સંદેશો, વિચાર ઉભો કરે છે આ ખેલ મહા કુંભ, હાલમાં જયારે ટીવી અને મોબાઈલ પણ માત્ર થોડીક કી દબાવીને રમત રમતા યુવાનોને પ્રેરણા આપે છે.

શરીર સ્વસ્થ બને, તંદુરસ્ત બને અને જીવનમાં વિકાસ કરે તેવી રમતો રમવાની, આ ખેલ મહા કુંભ, હાલના યુવાનો અને બાળકો છે ભારતનું ભવિષ્ય, એ ભારત જે હજારો વર્ષ પહેલાં ‘સોનેકી ચિડિયા’ હતું અને આજે પગરણ માંડી રહેલ છે, વિશ્વની મહાસત્તા બનવા તરફ,ત્યારે જરૂર છે એવા યુવાનોની જે શરીરથી સ્વસ્થ હોય, આમ હશે તો મન સ્વસ્થ હશે, અને સ્વસ્થ મન વિકાસના અનેક દરવાજા ખોલી નાખે છે, અને તેથી જ વિકાસના પ્રણેતા, જેણે વિકાસને જ એક માત્ર મુદ્દો બનાવ્યો, અને વિકાસના મુદ્દાએ તેમને ગુજરાતના મુખ્યપ્રધાનમાંથી ભારતના વડાપ્રધાન બનાવ્યા, અને મહાસત્તાઓ પણ જેમને અહોભાવથી નિહાળે છે, મહાસત્તાઓને મજબૂરીથી ભારત તરફ જોવાની પોતાની દ્રષ્ટી બદલવી પડી છે, તેવા શ્રી નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ વિચાર આપ્યો હતો આ વિકાસના દ્વારા ‘ખેલ મહા કુંભ’નો, કે જેણે યુવાનોની દ્રષ્ટિ બદલી નાખી છે.

તે પરંપરાને આગળ વધારી રહેલ છે ગુજરાતના પ્રથમ મહિલા મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રીમતી આનંદીબેન પટેલ, કે જેમણે શ્રી મોદીના ગુજરાતના વિકાસના કાર્યને, વિચારને આગળ તો ધપાવ્યો, પણ સાથે સાથે  એને નવો ઓપ આપ્યો, નવી મૌલિકતા ઉમેરાઈ, નવા રૂપ રંગ આપ્યા અને મહિલા શક્તિને પ્રોત્સાહન આપ્યું, તેઓએ ભાવનગર ખાતે ખુલ્લો મુખ્યો ખેલ મહાકુંભ ઉત્સવ’. ઉત્સાહી બાળકો અને યુવાનોએ તેમાં ભાગ લીધો, ખેલ મહાકુંભની મશાલે  અહીં વિરામ લીધો, અને અધિકારી ગણે તેમ જ રાજકીય આગેવાનોએ તેમનાં આશિર્વચન સાથે ‘ખેલ મહા કુભ’ ઉત્સવનો સત્કાર કર્યો, ભાવનગરના આંગણે ઉત્સાહનો માહોલ ઉભો થયો, પુરો થયો રાહ જોવાનો સમય, શરુ થઈ ગયો ઉત્સવ ખેલ મહા કુંભ, કે જયાં રમશે ગુજરાત, જીતશે ગુજરાત.
